What can acupuncture help with?

Acupuncture is used to support a wide range of health concerns, including stress, tension and body pain, headaches, digestive issues such as IBS, sleep difficulties, reproductive health and general wellbeing.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most people find acupuncture surprisingly gentle. The needles used are extremely fine. While it’s normal to feel a range of sensations when the needles are inserted, pain is not typically one of them.

How does Chinese medicine work?

In Chinese medicine, we look through a different lens. We take a holistic approach, looking for patterns and relationships between your symptoms and different aspects of your health and lifestyle, rather than addressing individual symptoms in isolation.

We ask a lot of questions and use tongue and pulse diagnosis to help guide how we move forward with your treatment.

Isn’t acupuncture just a placebo?

No. Acupuncture is more than a placebo. Research has investigated acupuncture extensively, with many clinical trials suggesting that acupuncture can have therapeutic effects beyond those attributable to placebo expectations.

What happens in an appointment?

Each appointment is divided into a consultation and treatment. You’ll notice that the first appointment is longer—75 minutes—to ensure we have enough time to ask the necessary questions, check your pulse, look at your tongue and complete any other clinical assessments needed to inform your treatment.

Treatment will involve acupuncture needles and may also include cupping or gua sha, depending on what is appropriate for you.
